This talk is part of the autumn programme of the Somerset Industrial Archaeology Society.
The first printed map of Somerset was produced by Christopher Saxton and published between 1575 and 1579.
Using many physical examples, Christine King explores how the development of cartography was driven forward by Saxton and other notable map-makers. The talk examines how maps evolved over time and how they reflected the physical and social changes taking place across Somerset and beyond.
