Whittling in the Woods Workshop

Spend a day surrounded by nature at Cothelstone Hill and learn traditional green wood carving techniques while creating your own handcrafted wooden spatula.

Join this one-day outdoor workshop at Cothelstone Hill and discover the art of whittling in a beautiful woodland setting.

Designed for adults and suitable for beginners, the workshop will introduce participants to basic carving techniques using traditional hand tools, including a knife, axe and drawknife. Under expert guidance, attendees will create their own unique handcrafted wooden spatula while learning the fundamentals of green wood carving.

The day will also cover selecting suitable timber for carving, identifying woods to avoid, sharpening techniques and the safe use of carving tools. No previous experience is necessary.

As the workshop takes place outdoors, participants should wear warm clothing suitable for all weather conditions, along with waterproof footwear. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
